This month we spoke to Nia Robson, Executive Assistant at The Accountancy Partnership!

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

My job consists of:

  • Liaising with external contractors, negotiating contracts and pricing
  • Directorial diary and meeting management
  • Notetaking for meetings e.g., appraisals
  • Event planning for staff quarterlies, the Christmas Party and seasonal events from the proposal stage to the day of the event
  • Organising extra staff social events such as Board Games Night, Wreath Making Workshops, as well as running events such as the Santa Dash and the Chester Half-Marathon
  • Special occasion gifting, birthday vouchers and work anniversary celebrations
  • Assisting other teams, e.g., with registration forms and workload reports
  • Supporting management with a wide range of tasks and responsibilities
  • Office ordering

What is a typical working day like for you?

Generally, I start the day by catching up on my emails and from there I plan accordingly, using my planner and Trello to note down my tasks for the day. From then on, every day is different!

Whether I’m liaising with utility companies, planning our next staff social, or having a meeting with Nespresso, no two days are the same.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

With the varied and ever-changing nature of my workload, at times I can have more tasks to complete than I do time to complete them. To alleviate this, I make sure manage my time by prioritising urgent tasks or projects with an imminent deadline. (Trello is my best friend!)

What is your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is how diverse it is. No two days, weeks or months are the same and it is really engaging to work on such a variety of projects and tasks. This is a role where I’m always learning, growing and finding new ways to problem solve!

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

I enjoy the warm and friendly working environment! We’re always out together whether it’s as a company at one of our staff quarterlies or socials, or as a group outside of work. Oh, and the office dogs!!!

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

The skills I find most useful are creativity, problem solving, time management and organisation.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

On my days off I enjoy going out for brunch, going to the gym or for a walk and then going into town to do some thrifting! I’ll usually spend the evening with friends and we’ll watch some live music, go to the cinema or try a new place to eat.

What’s your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement is volunteering with a local children’s charity providing respite residential breaks for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a highly rewarding experience, I felt such a strong sense of achievement seeing the smiles on their faces throughout the week!

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I’m in a real reading phase right now! Some of my recent reads have been ‘White Teeth’ by Zadie Smith, ‘The Secret History’ by Donna Tartt and ‘Misery’ by Steven King.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

What’s the better app, Goodreads or Vinted?
Answer: Don’t make me choose!!
